To get a permit, visit any PennDOT Driver License Center and submit a Motorcycle Learner’s Permit application along with a $10 fee. You’ll have to pass a vision screening and a written test. Find more information on the PennDOT website.
You can get your motorcycle license through Pennsylvania’s Motorcycle Safety Program (PAMSP) by passing one or more of the motorcycle training courses. The training courses are FREE for all PA residents with a valid driver’s license or motorcycle learner’s permit.
Introduces riders to the fundamentals of safe, responsible motorcycling. Includes classroom and on-cycle instruction. Final evaluation consists of a written, multiple choice knowledge test and an end-of-course skills test. Total instruction time is approximately 15 hours. Bike and helmet provided.
Helps experienced riders refresh and hone their motorcycle skills. Ideal for graduates of the Basic Rider Course, this course is usually completed in 1-2 days (total of 6 hours).
Teaches fundamental riding and safety skills for 3-wheeled motorcycle riding. Includes classroom and on-cycle instruction (participants use their own 3-wheeled motorcycle). Evaluation for the 3WBRC consists of a written, multiple choice knowledge test and an end-of-course skills evaluation. Total instruction time is approximately 12 hours.
